Bard Fortress
From
the siege and surrender to Napoleon – the resistance by the army of
Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoia against the French troops in 1704 was a
memorable one for the Bard – from Ironman to the Avengers, the Bard
Fortress is a magical place with a fascinating historical background
that will leave you speechless.
Program:
- Duration: approx. 4 hours
- Departure at 9 a.m. from Courmayeur
- Start of the tour at around 10.00 a.m..
- Return to Courmayeur at around 1:30 p.m..
*Participants will have the chance to visit the permanent and temporary exhibitions hosted at the Bard Fortress.

Upon
reaching the picturesque village of Bard, you will admire its fairy
tale-like buildings, enchanting fountains and arches, and the unusual
holes in the walls of Palazzo Nicole, caused by the bullets shot during
Napoleon’s siege. From above the rock, the imposing Bard Fortress evokes
memories of ancient defense measures, bloody invasions and fierce
battles.
When strolling around the village you’ll be able to
admire Casa Urbano, home to the old windmill, and Casa Ciuca, where you
will be able to see a lovely ‘viret’, a spiral staircase whose steps
open up in the shape of a fan around a central axis.
